This past Summer we were happy to welcome two new interns and provide them with an up close look into the world of wealth management. Although we're sad to see them go, we did spend some time learning more about what they took away from the experience.

Daniel Mencher, a rising sophomore at Bentley University from South Portland majoring in Economics-Finance with a minor in Computer Information Systems. Daniel was involved in many day-to-day operations at the firm such as assisting with client support or providing support with internal initiatives.

Quang Tran, an incoming graduate student at Suffolk University’s Sawyer Business School, having just graduated from their undergraduate Business program. Quang is originally from Vietnam but started his high school education in Boston. Quang worked very closely with our Doctors Without Borders Financial Education program while also assisting in some office support needs.
- What expectations did you have coming into this summer?
Q: I wanted to get exposure to the Wealth Management industry, while also learning the ins and outs of a small business.
D: I wanted to see how a smaller firm operated, and how different it could be in terms of a day-to-day business perspective. I had also hoped to see what a Wealth Management firm really did and what the industry entailed.
- Did we meet those expectations?
Q: Definitely! I got a great look into the smaller firm side of wealth management, especially with my help on the Doctors Without Borders project.
D: You did. I got to see all of the different aspects that make an independent wealth management work and how even the smallest choice can make a big difference if done right.
- How would you describe the company culture here at RBFA?
Q: Definitely a tight knit group. There is such an open and inviting atmosphere here.
D: Very welcoming. Coming in it was easy to tell that everyone was very friendly and easy to talk to. The team atmosphere made it really easy to ask for help and ask lots of questions.
- What do you see as the most important trait to be successful in our industry?
Q: Genuine relationship building. It was clear that Richard Brothers really put emphasis on this and it showed through client reactions.
D: Emphasis on really developing client relationships. I could see that with each client the team looked at more than just the black and white areas and really wanted to know who they were as people.
- What is your next step?
Q: I am starting my graduate program in the fall at Suffolk, aiming for my Masters of Science in Finance.
D: I am going back to Bentley to start my sophomore year and get more in depth with classes in my major.
