A Meaningful Partnership
As President of Richard Brothers Financial Advisors and Chair of the Maine Doctors Without Borders Committee, I am so excited to share more about the meaningful partnership my firm and our committee shares with Doctors Without Borders/Medecins Sans Frontieres (DWB), an “independent global movement providing medical aid where it’s needed most.”
When I see disease and hardship affecting vulnerable populations in conflict and crisis zones around the world, I am struck by a sense of urgency. What can Mainers like myself do to improve the health and welfare of those less fortunate? How can we contribute?
I have listened to real-life stories from DWB workers returned from mission in countries like South Sudan, where civilians are frequently targeted by armed groups and lack access to food, water, and basic health care – or obstetricians working to improve maternal fetal care in warzones – as well as other instances of critical life-saving care that the organization provides. These mission workers offer hope by saving millions of lives a year, educating and empowering local communities, and preventing the outbreak of disease. This hope is real and impartial.
A Personal Connection
I knew that dedicating my personal and professional support to Doctors Without Borders, and sharing their important work with our local Maine community would be the best way to make a meaningful contribution. My firm offers complimentary financial planning to hundreds of these medical personnel upon their return home, as well as other various partnership initiatives. Furthermore, I inaugurated the Maine Doctors Without Borders Fundraising Event in 2016, and this will be our third year hosting the evening. Our small group of Maine professionals that comprise the Maine Doctors Without Borders Committee share a steadfast commitment to raising funds and awareness in support of the organization.
As Committee Chair, I feel honored to spread the word about DWB with the Maine business and medical communities. Though we may be geographically distanced from many of these conflict zones – I have seen that the strong Maine philanthropic spirit comes together in impactful ways. You can make a real difference.
